How Pets Can Help
Routine and Structure
Rain sleet or shine - dogs thrive on having a regular routine. What's better, their routine becomes your routine! Regular feeding/walk times will help fill your day with tasks that feel meaningful - helping you to feel more focused and grounded, as well as a sense of purpose and achievement.
Companionship
Pets can give you a sense of security and someone to share the day with. This includes making you feel wanted and needed - which is not a given for people suffering with mental health. This can be especially valuable for people who live alone, or elderly people.
Social Interaction
Dogs offer a great way to increase socialisation, varying from just out on general dog walks where other dog walkers may stop to have a quick chat amongst others - such as pet shops, training classes or online groups which may also host regular meetups.
Reduce Anxiety
Pets can provide companionship which can help ease the feeling of anxiety
Physical Activity
Depending on the breed of dog you have, most dogs will require daily exercise (Or sometimes multiple times!) This will help you get outside, doing some form of exercise whether you realise it or not, which is great for the mind
Boost Confidence
Pets offer unconditional love and won't judge you. They can be great listeners, helping to boost self-confidence - especially in times of isolation.
